Take a guided tour of science through photography
Do you remember the first time you saw a dinosaur on TV or at a museum? Have you wondered how scientists know how T. rex ran?
How about ice ages and mammoths? Did you know there was once a cheetah that lived in North America?
Paleontology is a science that is appreciated by nearly everyone. Most people can name at least one dinosaur and have seen one or two of the Jurassic Park movies.
Science is exciting! Science means the possibility of learning something that no one else has ever known before. We’ll take you on a personalized tour of the inner workings of science through photography, illustration, and educational programs.
Paleontology
Paleontology is the study of ancient life through the use of fossils in the rock record. I have a Ph.D. and have been active in paleontological research for over 20 years. I continue to do research with a focus on using the chemistry of fossils and the rocks they’re found in to understand ancient environments and dietary habits of extinct animals and plants.
Art for science. As a matter of course, I frequently have to put together technical illustrations for professional journals and presentations. As an artist, I’ve always considered not only to get the facts correct but also to make the technical illustrations pleasing to the eye. The years I’ve spent honing these skills are now available to you. I am happy to help you by creating visually pleasing technical works that are acceptable for professional publications.
Sharing the knowledge. One of my favorite parts of being a paleontologist is the opportunity to share what I’ve learned to audiences of all ages. Let me and the other artists of PaleoPix teach you or your group about topics in paleontology, art, photography, or natural history.
