Roslyn Sussman Yalow (1921- 2011) was a medical physicist. In 1977, she and tow others won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the development of the radioimmunoassay (RIA) technique.

The RIA technique makes it possible to screen blood donations for various diseases, such as hepatitis. It was originally devised to measure insulin levels in diabetics.
