Chien-Shiung Wu (1912- 1997) was an experimental physicist who worked on the famous Manhattan Project.

Her research, in particular an experiment now called the Wu experiment, disproved what was thought to be a fundamental law of physics. This law was the ‘conservation of parity,’ which proposed that atomic nuclei were symmetrical. As it happens, they are not.
