C is for Marie Curie – Physicist
Marie Curie (1867 – 1934) is well known for her research with radiation.
She, along with her husband Pierre, was able to isolate the radioactive elements Polonium and Radium.
In 1903, she and her husband earned the Nobel Prize in Physics for their study of spontaneous radiation. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. In 1911, she was awarded another Nobel Prize, this time in Chemistry, for her work on radioactivity. She is the only woman to have ever won two Nobel Prizes, and the only person to win Nobel Prizes in two different sciences.
