“W” is for Winpro cameras, made by one company that seemed to change its name a lot.
Winpro cameras were originally produced by a company called Webster Industries Inc. out of Webster, New York (a suburb of Rochester, and about 15 miles from my home!). It made two cameras. One was the regular Winpro 35.
The company changed its name to Monroe Research in 1953 (after Monroe County, where Webster lies), then later to Zenith Film Corporation. Some cameras are labeled with Winpro Camera Corp, like this Winpro 35 Syncro Flash model.
These little plastic cameras are a cute remnant of Rochester’s photographic history.
The other cameras featured in this A to Z Challenge are linked on this page.
